Parents of Successful PWC Applicant 2024
Congratulations on passing the first round interview! Approximately 90% of applicants won’t have made it this far, so you’re already doing exceptionally well! Now it’s time to take it to the next level.
Stage six of the Deloitte job application procedure is the assessment centre. Depending on your chosen service line route you would be asked to attend a final interview with a Partner (/Director) directly and skipping the assessment centre stage altogether.
If you are asked to attend Deloitte final interview then please see this guidance page on understanding the Partner interview requirements.
Alternatively, depending on the service line you might be asked to attend further few exercises during the assessment centre as stated below.
You would be asked to undertake an e-tray exercise and a role-play exercise; and will also have to retake some aptitude tests similar to the earlier online assessments you had. The specific aptitude tests you will be retaking depend mainly on the service line you have applied to, although everyone can expect to retake the numerical reasoning test.
After choosing a convenient date from the options offered to you by Deloitte, you will typically have between one and two weeks to prepare. As we all know, job tests can be daunting and how can you be fully confident of putting in a perfect performance if you lack Big Four experience? As long as you can demonstrate passion and endeavour, we will give you the support you need to land your dream job.
Deloitte has designed the assessment centre stage to assess you against their key competencies criteria. The test will be time-limited, so you must be able to withstand pressure. Our training will ensure that you are fully confident and prepared for any eventuality. Imagine the embarrassment and panic caused by ‘freezing up’ at the Deloitte assessment centre exercises and you’ll realise just how important this is.
Although Deloitte do list key competencies criteria on their website, they don’t provide many details on the initial and follow-up questions you can expect to face. However, you can draw on the experience of our experts, who have previously worked for Big Four firms, to give you a major advantage in this area.
The complete etray software has been developed for Deloitte by Cubiks and Kenexa, both renowned global HR consultancies that publish various psychometric tests for Deloitte worldwide. Cubiks provides the etray exercise while Kenexa provides the role-play exercise. Both stages of the assessment centre process are detailed below. Depending on the service line you have applied to, you may also be asked to take on an additional exercise, which will be a presentation made to the Deloitte partner. The topic of the presentation will not be provided beforehand, so you will not get the chance to properly prepare.
A. The ‘virtual office’ exercise uses a computer-based email simulation program similar to Microsoft Outlook. All questions must be answered within the one-hour time limit. You will receive emails and voice mail messages with the aim of building up your knowledge on various work-related situations. Answers are presented in a multiple-choice format and will be marked automatically by Deloitte’s software upon submission.
B. The ‘analysis’ exercise uses a computer-based word processing simulation similar to Microsoft Word. All questions must be answered within the 40-minute time limit. You will receive project-based fictional information to review and use as the basis for a written report.
It is Deloitte policy to request that all attendees complete a feedback form. Key questions posed in the self-assessment form relate to areas of the assessment centre that you particularly liked and/or disliked, your thoughts on your own performance and ways in which Deloitte could optimise the process. This form usually takes around 10 minutes to complete and the time you spend on it will be noted. Your self-assessment form will later be reviewed against your actual performance marks to assess your ‘self-review and personal perception’ abilities.
You will meet Deloitte trainees and seniors at lunch where you will discuss your questions and career aspirations and learn about their views on working for Deloitte. However, this is not just a casual chat, it is in fact a 40-minute informal assessment during which you will be judged on your ethics and manners.
After completing the etray exercise, you will be asked to attend a 15-minute fictional meeting with a Deloitte partner. This meeting is based upon your responses to the e-tray exercise and will develop them further. Initially, the partner will ask you questions while posing as a fictional client’s director to discuss your written report. You will be challenged and cross-questioned on the reasoning behind your suggestions. Furthermore, the partner will assess whether or not you correctly understand the topic and seek your opinion on how the business could improve its model and services.
Deloitte will briefly allow you to look at an informational booklet during the assessment centre process. However, this is entirely insufficient for thorough preparation, which is why you need the relevant information and guidance well in advance. Do not think that you can successfully guess your way through the assessment centre tests, as you will be sorely mistaken.
Deloitte provides some of their own guidance on the assessment centre etray exercise, which you can access on their website here.
Deloitte has produced a PDF document containing hints and tips on attending the etray exercise, which you will get access to on their website prior to your assessment.
If you are invited to attend the Deloitte assessment centre then ensure to practice a free etray exercise on the Cubiks website, accessible here.
Your performance during the assessment centre will be kept on a permanent record and used during Deloitte’s final deliberations to determine whether or not you have got the job. It’s more than possible to successfully get through this stage by attaining a passing grade, yet fail to secure employment when Deloitte recruiters take a look at your collective performances over the whole application process.
Deloitte grade your ability on each stage between 1 point and 5. It is assumed by Deloitte that if an applicant can demonstrate ‘core capabilities’ and attain the full 5 marks during the assessment centre process then they automatically become a perfect match for the firm.
This means you need to score the maximum 5 points on every single stage to set yourself apart from rival job seekers and cannot afford to take a job test without having been properly prepared by Green Turn.
Our research findings show that a massive 92% of applicants fail Deloitte’s assessment centre stage, which in practice means that they have basically ruined their chances of ever securing a job with the firm.
