Congratulations on passing the aptitude tests! Approximately 65% of applicants will not have made it this far, so you are already doing very well. The next stage of the Deloitte job application procedure is the first interview. In the 2026 process Deloitte presents two named assessments, Immersive Online Assessment or One Stop and Job Simulation. Depending on your chosen service line and programme, the first interview may be scheduled as a live conversation online or at Deloitte offices, or it may be assessed within the Job Simulation through written and video responses. Deloitte can also ask additional competency questions at this stage to explore your fit in more depth. If not assessed here, expect a deeper conversation at the Partner interview stage online or in person.

After choosing a convenient date from the options offered to you by Deloitte, you will typically have about a week to prepare. Interviews can feel daunting, especially without Big Four experience. With strong preparation focused on your own experiences and impact, you can perform with confidence. If your second stage is a Job Simulation rather than a live first interview, apply the same interview techniques to the video response questions because these are used to assess many of the same competencies.

Deloitte First Interview Competency Criteria:

Deloitte has designed the first interview to assess you against their values and key competencies. Expect questions that explore how you Collaborate for measurable impact, Lead the way, Serve with integrity, Take care of each other and Foster inclusion. The interview is not a timed test, but you should answer concisely with clear outcomes and evidence of impact.

 

Although Deloitte lists values and competencies on their website and provides general interview tips, they do not publish exact questions. Our ex Big Four coaches use service line specific question banks and realistic follow up probes so you can practise the way you will be assessed. Integrity note: Deloitte expects interviews and video responses to be completed independently and in your own words.

Deloitte First Interview Details:

This is the first live discussion many candidates will face. Depending on availability and route, it can take place on Microsoft Teams, by phone, or in person at Deloitte premises. Typical duration is 30 to 60 minutes with an average of about 45 minutes. Most interviews blend competency and strengths questions with motivation and light commercial awareness. Some service lines include a short scenario or mini case.

For many 2026 programmes Deloitte assesses the first interview themes within the Job Simulation through written and video responses. In this format Deloitte can extend the assessment by asking additional questions to probe competencies such as problem solving, collaboration, communication and integrity. Prepare for both formats and treat the Job Simulation video questions as you would a live interview.

Your performance during the first interview or the Job Simulation interview style questions is recorded and considered alongside earlier assessment results to determine whether you progress. Many roles use a one to five capability scale. Consistency against Deloitte values, clear impact and strong motivation improve your overall outcome.

 

Deloitte grade your ability on each stage between 1 point and 5. It is assumed by Deloitte that if an applicant can demonstrate core capabilities and attain the full 5 marks during the first interview process then they automatically become a perfect match for the firm.
