Parents of Successful PWC Applicant 2024
Well done on passing the aptitude tests! Only 45% of applicants will have made it this far, so you’re already performing above average! Now it’s time to take it to the next level. The next stage of the Ernst and Young job application procedure is the Job Simulation Assessment. The Job Simulation stage would involve a mix of multiple-choice answer selection, written submission, and also submitting few interview-style answers in a video format.
Once you’ve passed the Numerical reasoning test (NRT) or other online Assessments (depending on your Service line route) then you would be asked to do the Job Simulation Assessments. These are four different assessments that you would need to online. You will be given 45 to 60 minutes to complete this stage of the three assessments.
EY Job Simulation Assessment number 1 - this will be the Situational Strengths assessment.
EY Situation Strength Assessment Task 1: You will be given specific work-based scenarios in the Situational Strengths assessment. You will be given 5 possible answers to each Scenario. Your first task would be to select the top option out of the 5 possible answers.
EY Situation Strength Assessment Task 2: You will be asked to rank all the 5 available options in a sequence of what you would consider being the top answer ranked first, then rank the rest of the options from the Most likely to be selected to the Least likely to be selected option.
We have prepared the relevant Situational Strength guidance page and the relevant Situational Strength Assessment package for you to practice real work-based scenarios and your responses to Tasks 1 and Task 2. This is an advanced level assessment that might require direct 1-2-1 interaction and preparation with our Consultants (ex-Big Four professionals). We arrange personalised sessions to prepare Candidates for this stage, it is a highly popular In-Person preparation stage and candidates are advised to contact us as soon as possible to book personalised In-Person sessions.
EY Job Simulation Assessment number 2 - this will be writing an email response to the client on specific business issues and summarising the pros and cons of each of the choices in a professional manner. You are asked to write reports in an email format to the client.
We have prepared the relevant Written Report exercise guidance page and the relevant Situational Strength Assessment package for you to practice real work-based scenarios and your responses to the client in a structured professional manner.
EY Job Simulation Assessment number 3 - this will be reviewing a Business Case Article and preparing your responses in a professional manner dealing with client-specific 2 issues. Then summarising your responses to the client and communicating to them in a video format. You will be asked to send in your professional responses to the 2 issues to EY in the video recording. Due to the specific nature of this stage, we advise booking your Live In-Person preparation session with our relevant Consultant from the specific Service line.
EY Job Simulation Assessment number 4 - this will be replying to the Strength-Based interview questions and send your responses to EY in a video format. We have prepared the relevant EY Strengths Interview Assessment package for you to practice real Strengths-based interview questions and devise your responses to the interview questions in a structured professional manner.
You will be asked by EY to complete these Job Simulation Assessments as soon as possible, you will usually have 3 days to take the real JS assessments. This stage of 'EY Job Simulation Assessment tests ' cannot be passed in the real sense unless and until you have the following skills set.
1. You'd need to know how to pass the Situational Strengths Assessment Test (Task 1 and 2)
2. You'd need to know how to pass the Client Email Written Report exercise
3. You'd need to know how to pass the EY advanced technology-driven and other work-specific situations impacting its clients and EY's own business
4. You'd need to know how to pass the EY advanced Numerical reasoning tests (Advanced NRT skill) and EY Advanced Verbal reasoning tests (Advanced VRT skill) applied to exercises 1, 2, 3 mentioned above
5. You'd need to know how to pass the EY Strength-based interview questions
Only when you combine the above five skill sets, you would then be able to reply to this stage of 'Job Simulation Assessment' exercises confidently and the rest of the coming stages. It's not going to be a one-hit-wonder without preparation for sure!
As we all know, job tests can be daunting and how can you be fully confident of putting in a perfect performance if you lack Big Four experience? Show us your passion and hard-working attitude and we will give you the support you require to land your dream job.
Ernst and Young have designed the Job Simulation Assessment stage to assess you against their strengths criteria. These criteria are unique amongst Big Four companies, as the others use a ‘key competencies’ system instead. The test will be time-limited, so you must be able to withstand pressure. Our training will ensure that you are fully confident and prepared for any eventuality. Imagine the embarrassment and panic caused by ‘freezing up’ during the Ernst and Young Job Simulation Assessments and you’ll realise just how important this is.
Ernst and Young only provide a very vague description of their strengths system on their website, with no details on the initial and follow-up questions you can expect to face. However, you can draw on the experience of our experts, who have previously worked for Big Four firms, to give you a major advantage in this area.
As the name indicates, these are different work-based assessments that you will be faced with during the application process. Depending on availability and the service line you have chosen, the assessment will either be conducted online from your own premises (applies to most of the service line routes), or Ernst and Young Assessors would be switching on full live recording mode (applies in rare occasions). Some Assessments at the Job Simulation Test are timed and others have no time limits attached. For example, you could be asked to do Career Motivation sections from the interview questions. Which could last from 10 minutes to 30 minutes to reply. On a few occasions, candidates were asked a full standard interview that lasted for 45 minutes, during which they were be asked around 15 initial questions and three follow-up questions for each, resulting in a total of roughly 45 questions (15x3). The first interview is generally conducted by an Ernst and Young manager and occasionally by a senior manager. An interviewer will typically conduct around 20 to 30 interviews per year. Below are two examples of the types of questions you might be facing:
EY STRENGTH: SELF DEVELOPMENT SKILLS
Tell me the goals you have set yourself in the last few years?
EY FOLLOW ON QUESTIONS:
WHAT TRIGGERED YOU TO WORK UPON THAT GOAL?
WHAT MADE THAT GOAL IMPORTANT FOR YOU?
WHAT IS THE IMPACT OF THAT GOAL ON YOUR FUTURE OBJECTIVES?
WHAT WAS THE OUTCOME OF YOUR EFFORTS?
EY STRENGTH: COMMUNICATE WITH IMPACT AND EMPATHY
Tell me about your biggest achievement to date?
EY FOLLOW ON QUESTIONS:
WHAT MAKES THIS ACHIEVEMENT VALUABLE FOR YOU?
WHAT CHALLENGES AND SETBACKS DID YOU FACE?
WHAT DOES THIS ACHIEVEMENT MEAN TO YOU?
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM THE ACHIEVEMENT?
Your performance during the first interview will be kept on the company record and used during Ernst and Young’s final considerations to decide whether or not you have landed the role. It is more than possible to successfully get through this stage by attaining a passing grade, but fail to secure employment when Ernst and Young take a look at your collective performances over the whole recruitment process.
Ernst and Young grade your ability on each stage between 1 point and 5. It is assumed by Ernst and Young that if an applicant can demonstrate ‘core Strengths capabilities’ and attain the full 5 marks during the first interview process then they automatically become a perfect match for the firm.
This means you need to score the maximum 5 points on every single stage to set yourself apart from rival jobseekers and cannot afford to take a job test without having been properly prepared by Green Turn.
Green Turn's research results show that three-fifth of applicants fail KPMG’s Job Simulation Assessment tests, combined with Stage 3 results, which in practice means that they have basically ruined their chances of ever securing a job with the firm.
