Parents of Successful PWC Applicant 2025
Congratulations on passing the aptitude tests! Approximately 90% of applicants won’t have made it this far, so you’re already doing exceptionally well! Now it’s time to take it to the next level.
Stage seven of the Deloitte application process is the Immersive Online Assessment (IOT), also known as Job Simulation, etray, ‘in-tray exercise’, which is part of the assessment centre process. You will receive link from Deloitte in your inbox to take immersive online assessment (IOT) as part of the assessment centre assessment. You would be requested to allocate some time to complete this online assessment. Alternatively, few candidates are asked to attend Immersive Online Assessment at Deloitte's office. In the assessment centre, usually you will be undertaking both IOT (etray/in-tray) and role-play exercises. In additions, you will be re-taking the numerical reasoning test and one of the verbal or diagrammatic / logic reasoning tests.
After choosing a convenient date from the options offered to you by Deloitte, you will typically have between one and two weeks to prepare. As we all know, job tests can be daunting and how can you be fully confident of putting in a perfect performance if you lack Big Four experience? As long as you can demonstrate passion and endeavour, we will give you the support you need to land your dream job.
Deloitte has designed the in-tray exercise to assess you against their key competencies criteria. The test will be time-limited, so you must be able to withstand pressure. Our training will ensure that you are fully confident and prepared for any eventuality. Imagine the embarrassment and panic caused by ‘freezing up’ during the Deloitte in-tray exercise and you’ll realise just how important this is.
Although Deloitte do list key competencies criteria on their website broadly, they don’t provide much details on the initial and follow-up questions you can expect to face. However, you can draw on the experience of our experts, who have previously worked for Big Four firms, to give you a major advantage in this area.
Deloitte’s Simulation in-tray exercise simulates a real office environment, featuring various real-time office tasks such as replying to emails and filling out spreadsheets. The relevant software has been developed for the company by Cubiks, a renowned global HR consultancy that publishes various psychometric tests for Deloitte worldwide. Deloitte has considered
Deloitte has dropped the Etray exercise assessment completely for most of the year 2025 joiners for selective entrance routes, instead, Deloitte has introduced a rigorous interview process. However, for a few selected service lines, the Etray exercise might still be assessed as it mimics the real-life day to day work scenarios and how we respond to each of those scenarios professionally. If you are not asked to attend the assessment centre then please feel free to skip and read the Partner interview guidance page for further details on the final interview assessment.
In the updated Etray exercise version, you will be involved in various real-time office tasks such as responding to emails after analysing client information and compiling graphs, charts and spreadsheets.
In the past, Deloitte did provide some of their own guidance on the assessment centre including eTray exercise / Job Simulation exercise, which you can access on their archived website here.
Deloitte has produced a PDF document containing hints and tips on the eTray exercise, which you would access on their website / the email links which they provide prior to your assessment, if you are invited to eTray / in-tray as per the Service line's instructions. Deloitte In tray is similar to eTray but you will be asked to sit online from your own. eTray / in-tray exercise will be timed and monitored, every bit of your responses will be scrutinised carefully and marked.
If you are invited to attend the Deloitte intray assessment then ensure to practice a free etray exercise on the Cubiks website, accessible here.
The Deloitte's Job Simulation In-tray exercise comes in two parts:
A. The ‘virtual office exercise’ is conducted through a computer-based email simulation program similar to Microsoft Outlook (hence the term online job simulation exercise). You will receive emails and voicemail messages to build up knowledge about various work-related situations. You are expected to successfully complete all tasks within the allocated one-hour time limit. Questions are presented in a ‘multiple choice’ format and your responses will be marked automatically by the Deloitte simulation software (scored in the range 0 to 5).
B. In the ‘analysis exercise’, you will be using a computer based word processing simulation similar to Microsoft Word but without the spell check feature. You will be given project-based fictional information to review and write a detailed report to the client, to be completed within the allocated 40-minute time limit.
You are expected to write a succinct and well-structured report. Deloitte provides you with an informational booklet approximately half an hour before the test, but this short period of time is nowhere near enough in which to prepare. You need the relevant information and guidance well in advance.
Your performance during the in-tray exercise will be kept on a permanent record and used during Deloitte’s final deliberations to determine whether or not you have got the job. It’s more than possible to successfully get through this stage by attaining a passing grade, yet fail to secure employment when Deloitte recruiters take a look at your collective performances over the whole application process.
Deloitte grade your ability on each stage between 1 point and 5. It is assumed by Deloitte that if an applicant can demonstrate ‘core capabilities’ and attain the full 5 marks during the assessment centre process then they automatically become a perfect match for the firm.
This means you need to score the maximum 5 points on every single stage to set yourself apart from rival jobseekers and cannot afford to take a job test without having been properly prepared by Green Turn.
Our research findings show that a massive 92% of applicants fail Deloitte’s in-tray exercise, which in practice means that they have basically ruined their chances of ever securing a job with the firm.
