Congratulations on passing the Transforming Small Businesses Assessment! Approximately 65% of applicants won’t have made it this far, so you’re already doing very well indeed! It’s time to push ahead and take it to the next level. The next stage of the KPMG job application procedure is the Delivering Outcome and Digital Submission, your response to KPMG Strengths-Based Assessment and initial interview questions in the digital video format.
On some occasions, candidates were asked detailed first interview as part of the Delivering Outcome digital video submission stage. In other instances, candidates were asked to attend detailed interviews after Delivering Outcome stage or after the Critical Thinker Strengths assessment. On rare occasions, candidates were asked to take two interviews i.e. the first and the final interviews on the Virtual LaunchPad Assessment Centre. Whatever the case may be, you rest assured to be tested on the interview by KPMG to be thoroughly assessed against KPMG Strengths behavioural core competencies.
After you choose a convenient date from the options offered by KPMG, you will have three days to submit your responses to KPMG initial interview questions in a video/audio recording format. As we all know, job tests can be daunting and how can you be fully confident of putting in a perfect performance if you lack Big Four experience? As long as you can show sufficient drive and enthusiasm, we will give you the support you need to land the job of your dreams.
KPMG has created the Strengths Assessment and first interview stage to judge you against their Behavioural Competencies Criteria. You can read more on the Strengths Assessment Test on our website here. Strengths-Based Assessment will be personalised and build on your responses from the Transforming Small Businesses Assessment. Furthermore, interview questions will be designed to understand your motivation for joining KPMG and the service line is specific, namely 'Career Motivation' and 'Making an Impact' competencies will be tested in the Digital Video Submission Assessment. This test will be time-restricted, you'd be given 60 minutes to answer the questions, so you must be able to cope with intense pressure. Our training will ensure that you are fully confident and ready to deal with any eventuality. Imagine the embarrassment and panic caused by ‘freezing up’ during the KPMG Strengths Assessment and Digital Submission interview and you’ll realise just how crucial this is.
Although KPMG lists the key competencies criteria on their website, they don’t provide many details on the initial and follow-up questions you can expect to face, on your video/audio submitted responses. However, you can draw on the experience of our experts, who have previously worked for Big Four firms, to give you a major advantage in this area.
As you may have guessed from the name, this is the Digital Submission of the interview questions you will be faced with during the application process. Depending on your video/audio responses and the service route you choose, you will be asked to attend a follow-up interview with KPMG which would either run at KPMG premises or over the telephone (as some candidates were asked to attend). Or you would jump straight to Critical Thinker Strengths Assessment after Delivering Outcome stage. This all depends on your academic background and your responses to Strengths assessments. Following are the examples of behavioural questions you will attempt during Digital Submission:
KPMG BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCY: CAREER MOTIVATION
Tell me about the service line you wish to apply to?
KPMG FOLLOW ON QUESTIONS:
WHAT RESEARCH HAVE YOU CARRIED OUT UNDERSTANDING YOUR CHOSEN SERVICE LINE?
WHAT TASKS WOULD YOU EXPECT TO BE INVOLVED IN YOUR TYPICAL DAY AT KPMG?
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN FIVE YEARS' TIME?
KPMG BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCY: MAKING AN IMPACT
Tell me what attracts you to KPMG?
KPMG FOLLOW ON QUESTIONS:
WHO HAVE YOU MET SO FAR TO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR CHOSEN SERVICE LINE ENTAILS?
HAVE YOU GIVEN A THOUGHT TO BUSINESS ISSUES IMPACTING UK COMPANIES CROPPING UP FROM BREXIT?
CAN YOU GIVE AN EXAMPLE OF WHEN YOU PERSUADED SOMEONE TO ACCEPT YOUR IDEAS?
Following on from your digital responses, most probably you will be asked to attend an interview. The initial interview can last anywhere from 40 minutes to two hours. A Typical interview at KPMG will last for around 45 minutes on average, in which time you will be asked around 15 initial questions and three follow-up questions for each behavioural competency, leading to a total of roughly 45 questions (15x3). The first interview is generally taken by a KPMG manager, but sometimes by a senior manager. An interviewer will typically be involved in around 20 to 30 interviews per annum. Below are two examples of the types of questions you will be facing:
KPMG BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCY: RESILIENCE
Tell me about a time when you were disheartened with the work task?
KPMG FOLLOW ON QUESTIONS:
WHAT CAUSED THE TASKS TO BE BORING OR REPETITIVE?
WERE YOU FORCED TO COMPLETE THE TASK OR WERE YOU LOOKING FOR CHANGE?
DID YOUR WORK COLLEAGUES AND SENIORS ALSO FIND THE TASK MUNDANE?
WHAT INITIATIVES DID YOU TAKE TO MAKE THE TASK’S OBJECTIVE EFFECTIVE?
KPMG BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCY: STRIVES FOR CONTINUAL IMPROVEMENT
Tell me about a time when you have had to overcome challenges before being able to complete a task or project?
KPMG FOLLOW ON QUESTIONS:
WHAT CAUSED THAT CHALLENGING SITUATION?
HOW DID YOU EVALUATE THE PROBLEM?
DID THE INITIAL CHALLENGE LEAD TO FURTHER CHALLENGING SITUATIONS?
TELL ME THE IMPACT OF MODIFICATION OF YOUR PLAN?
Your performance during the Digital Submission and interview will remain on record and is used in KPMG’s final deliberations to determine whether or not your application has been a success. It’s fully possible to successfully get through this stage by scoring a passing mark, yet fail to secure employment when KPMG recruiters take a look at your performances over the application process in its entirety.
KPMG grade your ability on each stage between 1 point and 5. It is assumed by KPMG that if an applicant can demonstrate ‘core capabilities’ and attain the full 5 marks during the first interview process then they automatically become a perfect match for the firm.
This means you need to score the maximum 5 points on every single stage to set yourself apart from rival job seekers and cannot afford to take a job test without having been properly prepared by Green Turn.
Green Turn research results show that one fifth of applicants fail KPMG’s Digital Submission and interview stage, which in practice means that they have basically ruined their chances of ever securing a job with the firm.
