Congratulations on successfully completing the Transforming Small Business Assessment stage Approximately 60% of applicants won’t have made it this far, so you’re already doing very well! Now it’s time to take it to the next level. The next stage of the KPMG job application procedure is the Critical Thinking Personality Assessment or otherwise known as the Critical Thinking Strengths test.
After choosing a convenient date from the options offered to you by KPMG, you will typically have less than one week to prepare. As we all know, job tests can be daunting and how can you be fully confident of putting in a perfect performance if you lack Big Four experience? As long as you can demonstrate passion and endeavour, we will give you the support you need to land your dream job.
KPMG has designed the Critical Thinking Strengths Assessment to assess you against their key strengths competencies criteria. The test will be time-limited circa 40 minutes, so you must be able to withstand pressure. Our training will ensure that you are fully confident and prepared for any eventuality. Imagine the embarrassment and panic caused by ‘freezing up’ during the KPMG Critical Thinking Strengths test and you’ll realise just how important this is.
Although KPMG do list key competencies criteria on their website, they don’t provide many details on the initial and follow-up questions you can expect to face. However, you can draw on the experience of our experts, who have previously worked for Big Four firms, to give you a major advantage in this area.
The relevant software has been developed for the Talent Lens and Kenexa, both are renowned global HR consultancies that publish various psychometric tests for KPMG worldwide. If you make it through to the assessment centre stage, which comes later in the job application process, you may have to resit this test. It is, therefore, crucial to start building up the necessary skills sooner rather than later.
The Online Immersive Critical Thinking tests usually come after the numerical reasoning tests and consist of a series of statements that you must understand from various perspectives, and make opinions and assumptions basing a range of formats. You might limited information on this prior to taking your real tests here. The critical thinking test at KPMG measures the following five detailed tests:
A. Inference – Inference ability is a conclusion that a person can draw from certain observed or supposed facts. This then would result in rating the probability of possible truth of inferences statements.
B. Recognition of Assumptions – An assumption is something presupposed or taken for granted. You will decide for each given statement whether the person mentioned in making the statement, is really making that assumption, for example, taking it for granted, arguably or not.
C. Deduction – In the Deduction test each statement would be followed by several suggested conclusions. You’d need to determine whether the given conclusions follow logically based on the information without letting your prejudices influence your judgment.
D. Interpretation – You’d be evaluating the information and judging whether or not the proposed conclusions follow beyond a reasonable doubt.
E. Evaluation of Arguments – Here you will be tested to distinguish between the given arguments that are strong and arguments that are weak. A strong argument must be both important and directly related to the question and a weak argument is not directly related to the question. You will be evaluated without letting your personal attitude toward the question influence your evaluation of the arguments.
There will be eight questions per scenario, leading to a total of 40 questions (8 x 5 scenarios) that must all be answered within 40 minutes. You are expected to demonstrate your business judgement, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. KPMG does provide a limited informational booklet in preparation for this stage which you can download here. KPMG also provide an online link to practice free test at Talent Lens website, to practice Talent Lens Watson Glaser & Kenexa style KPMG Critical Thinking Reasoning tests.
Compared to this practice material the real tests would be much harder to deal with, hence you'd need relevant detailed information and the right level of material to prepare from and pass your real tests. Do not assume that you can successfully guess your way through the verbal reasoning test, as you will be sorely mistaken.
Your performance during the Critical Thinking test will be kept on a permanent record and used during KPMG’s final deliberations to determine whether or not you have got the job. It’s more than possible to successfully get through this stage by attaining a passing grade, yet fail to secure employment when KPMG recruiters take a look at your collective performances over the whole application process.
KPMG grade your ability on each stage between 1 point and 5. It is assumed by KPMG that if an applicant can demonstrate ‘core capabilities’ and attain the full 5 marks during the Critical Thinking test process then they automatically become a perfect match for the firm.
This means you need to score the maximum 5 points on every single stage to set yourself apart from rival jobseekers and cannot afford to take a job test without having been properly prepared by Green Turn.
Our research findings show that one fifth of applicants fail KPMG’s Critical Thinking test, which in practice means that they have basically ruined their chances of ever securing a job with the firm.
