Stage eight of the Deloitte application process is the role play exercise, which is part of the assessment centre process. At the assessment centre, you will be undertaking both in-tray and role-play exercises.
Usually, the candidates are directly invited to the Partner's interview instead and they don't need to take these exercises. However, if you fall within the few who are invited to these tests then please note that you will also be re-taking the numerical, verbal or diagrammatic reasoning tests at the premises. If this applies then you would be given the details of such tests by the firm prior to attending the assessment centre.
After choosing a convenient date from the options offered to you by Deloitte, you will typically have between one and two weeks to prepare and it is vital that you utilise this time by running through our practice material. Deloitte’s role play exercise hinges on your interpersonal as well as your professional skills and consists of two separate face-to-face meetings. The Deloitte role play exercise comes in two parts:
A. After completing the Deloitte's Job simulation etray exercise, you will be asked to attend a 15-minute meeting with a Deloitte partner. This meeting builds on your responses in the second part of the simulation etray test and uses them as the basis for a fictional scenario. The partner will initially ask you questions while posing as a fictional client’s director and will proceed to rigorously challenge and cross-question you.
B. In the second part of the role-play exercise, you will meet Deloitte trainees and seniors at lunch where you will discuss your questions and career aspirations and learn about their views on working for Deloitte. However, this is not just a casual chat, it is in fact a 40-minute informal assessment during which you will be judged on your ethics and manners.
Deloitte does not provide an informational booklet for the role play exercise, as it is based on your simulation etray responses. Thus, it is especially vital that you receive appropriate guidance at this stage because you do not want to be waiting for a meeting feeling nervous and unprepared. You need the relevant information and guidance well in advance to give yourself a realistic chance of success.
Your performance during the role play exercise will be kept on a permanent record and used during Deloitte’s final deliberations to determine whether or not you have got the job. It’s more than possible to successfully get through this stage by attaining a passing grade, yet fail to secure employment when Deloitte recruiters take a look at your collective performances over the whole application process.
Deloitte grade your ability on each stage between 1 point and 5. It is assumed by Deloitte that if an applicant can demonstrate ‘core capabilities’ and attain the full 5 marks during the assessment centre process then they automatically become a perfect match for the firm.
