Question: Tell me about any goals that you have set yourself in the last few years?


Situation: I had set myself the goal of achieving 3 A's at AS Level in the three subjects I would carry on to A2 Level which was Maths, Economics, and Business Studies. I set myself this goal because I have high aspirations and I always want to do the best I can at a task. It would also help me be more employable as it shows I am a hard worker.


Action: During the summer holidays before I started year 12, I bought all textbooks and revision guides and went through them, and started to make notes. For Maths, I had already learned the content of my first exam by the end of summer, by the 6th week of term I had completed all my notes for the year and then planned a revision schedule between then and the January and June exams. I consistently achieved the highest marks in the class in economics and Business Studies end-of-unit tests at school as I was miles ahead of anyone else in the year. In my schedule, I based the order of the work I did in terms of which work was most urgent and important e.g. coursework. Unfortunately, during late April I fell quite ill and was told my GP that I had Gastroenteritis. I couldn't do any work for almost 2 weeks and my exams were only a few weeks away. However, because I had already completed my notes and most of the revision I wasn't under a lot of stress and I coped very well.


Result: I did achieve the 3 A's I wanted and achieved high percentages, especially in Economics where I achieved 95% in both exams. I feel that effective time management, my discipline of constantly practicing exam papers, and always keeping sight of my ultimate goal helped me achieve success.
