Ernst and Young First Interview Preparation:

Once you’ve picked a convenient date from the options available, you will usually have a week or two to prepare. As we all know, job tests can be daunting and how can you be fully confident of putting in a perfect performance if you lack Big Four experience? Show us your passion and hard-working attitude and we will give you the support you require to land your dream job.

Ernst and Young First Interview Strengths Criteria:

Ernst and Young have designed the first interview stage to assess you against their strengths criteria. These criteria are unique amongst Big Four companies, as the others use a ‘key competencies’ system instead. The test will be time-limited, so you must be able to withstand pressure. Our training will ensure that you are fully confident and prepared for any eventuality. Imagine the embarrassment and panic caused by ‘freezing up’ at the Ernst and Young first interview and you’ll realise just how important this is.

Ernst and Young only provide a very vague description of their strengths system on their website, with no details on the initial and follow-up questions you can expect to face. However, you can draw on the experience of our experts, who have previously worked for Big Four firms, to give you a major advantage in this area.

Ernst and Young First Interview Details:

As the name indicates, this is the first interview you will be faced with during the application process. Depending on availability and the service line you have chosen, the interview will either be conducted at Ernst and Young premises or over the telephone. There is no time limit and an interview can last from 40 minutes to two hours. A standard interview will last for 45 minutes, during which time you will be asked around 15 initial questions and three follow-up questions for each, resulting in a total of roughly 45 questions (15x3). The first interview is generally conducted by an Ernst and Young manager and occasionally by a senior manager. An interviewer will typically conduct around 20 to 30 interviews per year. Below are two examples of the types of question you will be facing:

Example 1:

EY STRENGTH:   SELF DEVELOPMENT SKILLS

Tell me the goals you have set yourself in the last few years?

EY FOLLOW ON QUESTIONS:

WHAT TRIGGERED YOU TO WORK UPON THAT GOAL?
WHAT MADE THAT GOAL IMPORTANT FOR YOU?
WHAT IS THE IMPACT OF THAT GOAL ON YOUR FUTURE OBJECTIVES?
WHAT WAS THE OUTCOME OF YOUR EFFORTS?

Example 2:

EY STRENGTH:   COMMUNICATE WITH IMPACT AND EMPATHY

Tell me about your biggest achievement to date?

EY FOLLOW ON QUESTIONS:

WHAT MAKE THIS ACHIEVEMENT VALUABLE FOR YOU?
WHAT CHALLENGES AND SETBACKS DID YOU FACE?
WHAT DOES THIS ACHIEVEMENT MEAN TO YOU?
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM THE ACHIEVEMENT?

Ernst and Young First Interview Results:

Your performance during the first interview will be kept on company record and used during Ernst and Young’s final considerations to decide whether or not you have landed the role. It is more than possible to successfully get through this stage by attaining a passing grade, but fail to secure employment when Ernst and Young take a look at your collective performances over the whole recruitment process.

Ernst and Young grade your ability on each stage between 1 point and 5. It is assumed by Ernst and Young that if an applicant can demonstrate ‘core capabilities’ and attain the full 5 marks during the first interview process then they automatically become a perfect match for the firm.

This means you need to score the maximum 5 points on every single stage to set yourself apart from rival jobseekers and cannot afford to take a job test without having been properly prepared by Green Turn.
