Well done on passing the assessment centre tests! Approximately 90% of applicants won’t have made it this far, so you’re already performing well above average! Now it’s time to take it to the next level. Stage eleven of the Ernst and Young job application procedure is the partner interview.
After choosing a convenient date from the options offered to you by Ernst and Young, you will typically have a week to prepare. EY asks candidates to either attend the Partner's interview on the same day as the rest of the Assessment Centre exercises otherwise, depending on the availability of the Partner / Director in the Service Line they ask the candidate to attend the Partner's interview on another day. As we all know, job tests can be daunting and how can you be fully confident of putting in a perfect performance if you lack Big Four experience? As long as you can demonstrate passion and endeavour, we will give you the support you need to land your dream job.
Ernst and Young have designed the partner interview stage to assess you against their strengths criteria. These criteria are unique amongst Big Four companies, as the others use a ‘key Strengths competencies’ system instead. The test will be time-limited, so you must be able to withstand pressure. Our training will ensure that you are fully confident and prepared for any eventuality. Imagine the embarrassment and panic caused by ‘freezing up’ at the Ernst and Young partner interview and you’ll realise just how important this is.
Ernst and Young only provide a very vague description of their strengths system on their website, with no details on the initial and follow-up questions you can expect to face. However, you can draw on the experience of our experts, who have previously worked for Big Four firms, to give you a major advantage in this area.
Depending on availability and the route you have taken, the interview will either take place at Ernst and Young premises or over the telephone. There is no set time restriction and an interview can last from 40 minutes to two hours. An average interview will last for 45 minutes, during which time you will be asked around 15 initial questions and three follow-up questions for each, leading to a total of roughly 45 questions (15x3). The partner interview is usually conducted by an Ernst and Young manager and sometimes by a senior manager. An interviewer will typically conduct around 20 to 30 interviews annually. Below are two examples of the types of questions you will be facing:
EY STRENGTH: EXCELLENT CLIENT SERVICE
Do you believe in giving quality service to clients?
EY FOLLOW ON QUESTIONS:
WHAT IS QUALITY SERVICE IN YOUR OPINION?
QUALITY COMES WITH DEVOTING EXTRA TIME. DO YOU AGREE?
TELL ME A TIME WHEN YOU DEMONSTRATED EXCELLENT CLIENT SERVICE?
WHAT SETS US APART FROM OTHER BIG FOUR FIRMS?
EY STRENGTH: CAREER MOTIVATION
Why have you chosen to apply to EY instead of other Big Four firms?
EY FOLLOW ON QUESTIONS:
WHAT INTERESTS YOU ABOUT EY IN PARTICULAR?
HOW ARE EY AUDITING TECHNIQUES DIFFERENT COMPARED TO OTHER BIG FOUR FIRMS?
WHAT DIFFERENTIATES EY FROM THE OTHER BIG FOUR FIRMS?
WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT OUR CLIENTS?
Your performance during the partner interview will be kept on a permanent record and used during Ernst and Young’s final deliberations to determine whether or not you have got the job. It’s more than possible to successfully get through this stage by attaining a passing grade, yet fail to secure employment when Ernst and Young recruiters take a look at your collective performances over the whole application process.
Ernst and Young grade your ability on each stage between 1 point and 5. It is assumed by Ernst and Young that if an applicant can demonstrate ‘core capabilities’ strengths and attain the full 5 marks during the partner interview process then they automatically become a perfect match for the firm.
This means you need to score the maximum 5 points on every single stage to set yourself apart from rival jobseekers and cannot afford to take a job test without having been properly prepared by Green Turn.
Our research findings show that a massive 80% of applicants fail Ernst and Young’s partner interview stage, which in practice means that they have basically ruined their chances of ever securing a job with the firm.
