An Overview:

Stage nine of the PWC job application procedure is the assessment centre. At this stage, you will be undertaking written and group or role-play exercises and will also have to retake some aptitude tests from earlier. The exact aptitude tests you will be re-sitting mainly depends on the service line you are applying for, although everyone should expect to retake the numerical reasoning test.

PWC Assessment Centre Preparation:

After choosing a convenient date from the options offered to you by the company, you will generally have from one to two weeks to prepare. As we all know, job tests can be daunting and how can you be fully confident of putting in a perfect performance if you lack Big Four experience? If you can demonstrate the required ambition and endeavor, we will give you the support you need to land your dream job.

PWC Assessment Centre Competency Criteria:

PWC have designed their assessment centre stage to assess you against their key competencies criteria. The test will be timed, so you must be able to deal with pressure. Green Turn’s training schemes will ensure that you are totally confident and prepared for any eventuality. Think of the embarrassment and panic caused by ‘freezing up’ during the PWC assessment centre tests and you’ll realise just how important this is.

PWC do list key competencies criteria on their website, but they don’t provide many details on the initial and follow-up questions you can expect to face. However, you can draw on the experience of our experts, who have previously worked for Big Four firms, to give you a major advantage in this area.

PWC Assessment Centre Details:

The software used in this stage has been developed for the company by SHL, arenowned global HR consultancy that publishes various psychometric tests for PWC worldwide. You will take on the written report exercise and, depending on your chosen business route, the group or individual role play exercise as well. Assessment centre exercises are all detailed below.

1:  PWC Written Communication Exercise

You will be given a specific company ‘information pack’ to analyse and base a detailed report on. You will then present your conclusions to a PWC manager or senior manager, who will rigorously question and challenge you. This test lasts for half an hour, after which your scribbled sheets will be removed and marked.

2:  PWC Group Exercise

As you may already have guessed, this exercise will be conducted in groups. This is chiefly for the purpose of assessing your team work and coordination skills although other competency areas will also be taken into account. Applicants will all receive a standard ‘information pack’, to build up their knowledge on a particular topics. Also, each team member will receive their own specific information, which they are expected to share with the team. You will be given 20 minutes to analyse the information pack and additional unique information and will then get a further 30 minutes to discuss it with the group. You should confidently communicate your opinions with other participants, towards reaching a final conclusion.

3:  Lunch With PWC Colleagues

You will have lunch with PWC trainees and seniors, during which time you will discuss your questions and career aspirations and learn about their views on working for PWC. Be prepared for the fact that this is not just a casual chat, it is a 40-minute informal assessment during which you will be judged on your ethics and manners.

4:  PWC Role Play Case Study Exercise

This test is different from the group exercise in that you will be assessing a company information pack and making solo conclusions. You will be given half an hour to analyse the information pack, which will be followed by a 10-minute discussion with a PWC manager who will assess your ideas.

You should be demonstrating your business judgment, time management and interpersonal skills at the assessment centre. PWC will not provide you with instructional booklets or any other means of preparation at the assessment centre, meaning you need the relevant information and guidance well in advance. Do not think that you can successfully guess your way through the assessment centre tests, as you could not be more wrong!

PWC Assessment Centre Results:

Your performance during the assessment centre stage will be retained on permanent record and used during PWC’s final deliberations to decide whether or not you have got the job. It’s entirely possible to get through this stage by attaining a passing grade yet fail to secure employment when PWC recruiters take a look at your collective performances over the whole application process.

PWC grade your ability on each stage between 1 point and 5. It is assumed by PWC that if an applicant can demonstrate ‘core capabilities’ and attain the full 5 marks during the assessment centre process then they automatically become a perfect match for the firm.

This means you need to score the maximum 5 points on every single stage to set yourself apart from rival jobseekers and cannot afford to take a job test without having been properly prepared by Green Turn.
